The hatched band is three years you would have to solve separately. Starting at 8, this is not urgent. Starting at 12, it is the whole question — you are choosing who teaches them through secondary school.
Before you pay anything
Ask these. Watch for these.
Five questions — ask both, then use the calculator
- 1-on-1 or group? If group, how many children maximum?
- How long is one lesson, in minutes?
- Smallest package I can buy?
- Unused lessons if we stop — refund, transfer, or gone?
- Can I change teacher, and how many times?
Then divide: price ÷ total minutes ÷ children in the room. That is your real number.
Three things to watch in a trial — none appear in marketing
- Time until your child speaks unprompted. Not answering — volunteering. Predicts the next year better than anything else.
- What the teacher does when your child is wrong. Correct and move on, or find out why. Only one compounds.
- Whether they ask when the next one is. Say nothing. Just listen.
A quiet child in a group is the failure case: a year of attending, barely speaking. If that is your child, the group discount is not a discount.
